We’re open! Come and visit us in the Fota Frameyard.

We’re open again! The weather was very kind to us and our visitors on the first day of our new season in the Frameyard. Our visitors  today included people from Pittsburg, USA, Wexford, Tipperary, West Cork and some locals too. Sunshine. Bird-song. Flowers. Trees. What more could you want on a Monday in March?

Linda set the tone for the day’s work by using her artistic talents to write a gardening quote (from Luther Burbank) on the Frameyard Blackboard. The flowers that provide “sunshine, food and medicine for the soul” are available in abundance in the Frameyard, whether you’re sitting on our lovely blue benches, taking it all in. Or buying some of our lovely plants to take home with you.

We have new display stands. This will make it easier for our visitors to look at the plants. In the spirit of the Frameyard, these stands are completely made from recycled materials, including wood from the orchard.

Our new recycled stands.

We spent the day selecting and taking the plants out of the Glasshouses, re-labeling them (with our newly designed labels) and putting them on display. These include Wallflowers, Osteospermum (Cape Daisy), Aeonium, Digitalis (Foxglove), Geraniums, Pelargoniums, Iris, Fuchsia, Sweet pea, Sempervivum, various herbs and more.

There are lots of plants lined up for future display and sale over the next few months. We’ve been busy potting and re-potting and planting seeds throughout the Winter.

We’ve begun planting our produce, putting peas and beans into outdoor beds. Our tomato plants are developing and we look forward to another bumper crop of delicious Sweet Apperitif and Sungold, among others.

So come and visit us soon in the Frameyard. You can walk around, explore the Glasshouses and Pit houses, buy some of our wonderful plants, sit on one of our lovely benches taking in the atmosphere. You’ll meet our volunteers, some of whom are knowledgeable gardeners and if you want, you can book a tour with our gardener, Bernard. We look forward to seeing you soon.
