Everything that’s happening for visitors in July
The team of volunteers and staff here at Fota House and Gardens are thrilled to welcome you to the estate. Whether you’re a Cork local, a day visitor, or discovering us on staycation, we invite you to discover everything we have to offer here. The heritage, nature and history of the estate makes it incredibly special and there is always so much happening.
July 2020 at Fota House & Gardens
We are pleased to share that all attractions at Fota House & Gardens are now re-opened to the public for you to enjoy right here in the heart of the Cork Harbour Islands!
On July 1, our doors reopened to begin our Summer 2020 season. For Wednesday to Sunday, you can enjoy learning about the House, its family and dedicated staff who made the estate the extraordinary place it is.
We highly recommend you book House Tours in advance via our booking system to ensure you can reserve your space alongside other visitors. You will meet an experienced tour guide in our Visitor Centre who will lead you through the house, sharing stories and providing insight on the spectacular details, artwork and collection pieces that make up the ‘Upstairs’ and ‘Downstairs’ of this Regency property. As Fota House is a fully re-accredited museum, the immersion in the space is genuinely awe-inspiring with exceptional attention-to-detail and displays that showcase the rich history of this beloved Cork landmark.
Arboretum & Formal Gardens
The Arboretum and Formal Gardens are open daily from 9am-6pm. With the care and management of the Office of Public Works, this is a world-renowned space that draws visitors from local residents, families, photographers and more. Bring a picnic, soak up the atmosphere, and keep an eye out for the specialist botanical species here in the estate as well our native fauna including the rare Irish red squirrel.
The Formal Gardens continue to be respectfully reserved for the safe enjoyment of ‘cocooners’ at the following times:
- Monday-Friday 10am-1pm
- Saturday 11am-1pm
Victorian Working Gardens
The historial integrity of the estate extends to the Victorian Working Gardens. For the summer, you can purchase Fota-grown plants from our talented team of gardeners and volunteers plus have a chat with the experts all about the breathtaking space as well as the seedlings. The Frameyard, as it is affectionately known, is open daily until 3pm.
If you fancy a bite, the irresistible bakery treats from Bakestone Cafe can be purchased daily via the safe external hatch. Card payments are preferred due to the current health and safety guidelines.
