Our aim is to create opportunities for everyone to get involved with their heritage in any way that they choose and volunteering is a great way for us to offer meaningful ways for people to engage with heritage.  We believe this increased individual and community participation at special places brings them to life and helps protect and preserve them for future generations.

Why volunteer?

There are many reasons for volunteering and each person will have their own motivations, and by joining the Fota team as a volunteer you will have the opportunity to:

  • meet lots of new people
  • learn new skills
  • gain experience in a range of areas
  • do something worthwhile
  • work in beautiful surroundings
  • have fun!

What areas can you participate in?

  • tour guiding
  • gardening and horticulture
  • composting
  • customer services duties (at our Welcome Desk)
  • event support
  • furniture restoration
  • oral history and reminiscence
  • conservation
  • Fota ambassadors at events
  • …and much more!

Support and training

Our new volunteers will be asked to attend an induction workshop where you can find out more about the Irish Heritage Trust and Fota as well as discovering more about the roles you might like to try.

Further training and support will be given on more specific roles and you will have opportunities to discuss these with other volunteers.  We have regular meetings for staff and volunteers to keep everyone informed of training opportunities and property updates. We also take ‘fam’ trips to other properties and hold social events for the team.

Contact our Volunteer Co-ordinator Claire Kelliher today on 021-4815543 or by email here and she’ll help get you started.
