Families

We’ve designed a number of activities for younger visitors …

For those under 6 years there is an activity book to allow them to join in with the guided tour of the house. In ‘Where is Mrs Kevin’s Cat?’ the Housekeeper’s naughty cat Toby has gone missing and we want our young visitors to help us find her by looking for clues around Fota House. Using the special map and eight clues, children can follow the trail by filling in the spaces on your map and find the cat! Booklet: €1 (Map inside)

The ‘Little Explorers Tree Trail’ is a gentle walking trail designed as a fun way to stimulate observation of nature and environment for children under six. Young visitors can carry out simple counting and drawing exercises whilst they explore the arboretum with their parents/guardians or teacher. The trail consists of a fully illustrated map and a guidebook which is full of activities that can be carried out during the walk or in the café afterwards. The trail takes approximately 30 minutes to complete. Booklet: €3, Map: €1.

The ‘Junior Plant Hunter Trail’ encourages young visitors of seven years and over to hunt for trees in the arboretum and mark their location on the map and note their country of origin on the atlas. Each trail consists a map and a guide book and is full of activities and puzzles that can be carried out during the walk. Older children might prefer to self-guide with the map and guidebook. This trail takes approximately 40 minutes to complete. Booklet€3, Map €1.
